It’s said everywhere, New Year, new you! Well, Advanced Skin + Body Aesthetics loves the you that you are all year round, but we also understand that the New Year gives us an excuse to change some habits and set some goals. We’re here to support all of your body and skincare resolutions this year!

The pandemic years have definitely seen an upsurge in the need for aesthetic treatments. Whether it’s because of the hours we spend staring at our image during Zoom meetings or the general desire to step up our focus on our health, being our best selves is a noble pursuit.

We thought we’d take a look at some of the trending aesthetics treatments as we head into 2022! We’ve compiled our own observations and predictions along with those of Bustle, Byrdie, and the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM) to bring you our list of trending aesthetic treatments in 2022.

1. Injectables

Injectables will continue to be incredibly popular through 2022. The noninvasive nature and easy recovery of injectables like dermal fillers, Botox®, and Xeomin® make them a no-brainer when you’re looking to refresh your visage. Dermal fillers, like Juvadérm®, Belotero®, and Radiesse®, are used to fill in facial lines and give volume and fullness to the face, which is often lost due to aging. Botox®, on the other hand, blocks the message from the brain to the muscles that cause crow’s feet and frown and forehead lines.

In addition to the tried and true injectables, there is a new procedure that is becoming popular, especially because its subtlety makes the effects appear natural. The “lip flip” utilizes Botox® to relax the upper lip, causing it to essentially flip and appear fuller without fillers.

2. Facial Tightening with Radiofrequency Lasers

Another way to stimulate that rejuvenating collagen and elastin, without the blood and needles, is radiofrequency laser treatment. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity. Collagen and elastin help to restore those lost proteins. In the past, people wanting to repair sagging skin would spend a great deal of money, and a lot of time and pain, to get a facelift.

Luckily, radiofrequency laser skin tightening (like NuEra Future Perfect) is a much less painful and more affordable way to get instant results. IAPAM explains that “radiofrequency is used to heat up the skin, which activates the collagen production. This results in instant skin tightening.” Recovery takes no more than a week and involves a little redness and swelling. Though you may want to turn the camera off on your Zoom meetings for the first few days, this procedure is easy to get done without missing work.

3. Body Contouring

Perhaps it’s the sedentary nature of the first bit of the pandemic that has made these body contouring procedures even more popular. Or perhaps it’s the desire to up our healthy quotient! Body contouring is ideal for people who have their diet and exercise regimen on lockdown but want to reach the next level by eliminating those annoying spots that just won’t behave.

Procedures run the gamut of intensity from outpatient, painless, quick recovery treatments, to inpatient, surgical options. CoolSculpting®, on the mild end of the spectrum, uses cryolipolysis to “freeze the fat” and send you back to work on the same day. There is also injection lipolysis, radio frequency lipolysis, and laser lipolysis (which Smartlipo® utilizes) to get rid of stubborn fat deposits. Moving toward the more invasive: tummy tucks, facelifts, and breast lifts sculpt the body further. Their results will be drastic, but the recovery time, complications, and money out-of-pocket will be, too.

With the global health concerns at maximum over the last two years, it makes sense that we want to live our best lives right now. Body contouring can aid in creating greater self-confidence. And with so many of us working from home, recovering there doesn’t necessarily mean you have to miss work!

4. Chemical Peels

The stress and uncertainty of recent years have certainly taken their toll, and one of the first places that stress is going to show is on your skin. We are starting to notice things like hyperpigmentation, dull, rough texture, and deepening lines. Chemical peels remedy these symptoms.

Chemical peels are designed to remove the top layer of skin, revealing the fresh and healthy skin underneath. The treatment is quick and relatively pain-free, while the recovery is simple: lots of hydration, moisturizer, and avoiding heat and sunshine. You’ll have some redness and peeling for about a week, but other than that, you’re free to keep your usual routine. Peels help with scarring, hyperpigmentation, evening out skin tone and texture, and lessening lines and wrinkles. You’re basically peeling off the worry and hardship and revealing the real you!

5. Skin Rehabilitation

“The next year is all about skin rehabilitation,” predicts Bustle. The move out of the normal 9 to 5 and into a hybrid, online working environment has had its drawbacks for sure, but it has also caused people to take better care of their skin! Anxiety and mask-wearing have affected our “skin barrier,” and it’s time for some rehab.

There has been an uptick in people looking to rejuvenate and nourish their skin barrier. This can be accomplished through regular facials and treatments designed to hydrate and repair your skin (like our Signature and GeneO+ facials in Lincoln, NE). We are also seeing people ready to invest in their at-home skincare. Shiri Sarfati, in an interview with Bustle, recommends, “products with hyaluronic acid, peptides, and seaweed to help heal a compromised skin barrier.”
