Older man receiving Botox. From blog by Advanced Skin + Body Lincoln Spa & Aesthetics

As we get older, it’s inevitable that we’ll start to see the signs of aging. This includes the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet, and fine lines. While some might choose to embrace their age, others might want to do something about it. In this post, we’ll discuss how Botox and Xeomin can help you stay looking young and fresh.

In our opinion, the most important thing is for you to feel good about yourself, inside and out! If you’re interested in reducing the signs of aging, Botox® and Xeomin® might be right for you. And we can help.

What are Botox® and Xeomin®?

Botox and Xeomin are two of the most popular anti-aging treatments available today. These treatments work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles, which can help you look younger for longer.

According to Healthline, Botox® and Xeomin® are “two different brands of botulinum toxin type A injections,” specifically OnabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) and IncobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin). These are injected under the skin to block the signal from the nerve to the muscle that tells it to contract. Muscle contractions are what pull on the delicate facial skin, causing folds and eventually moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Relaxing the muscles in your face reduces wrinkles and fine lines.

Both treatments are relatively affordable and can be done in a doctor’s office.

What are they used to treat?

Botox® and Xeomin® are used to treat crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines. They also treat many health conditions outside of their aesthetic benefits.

What is the difference between Botox® and Xeomin®?

There are two main differences between Botox® and Xeomin®.

  1. Botox® needs to be refrigerated whereas Xeomin® does not.
  2. Xeomin® has no additives. Injections that contain additives risk the body developing antibodies and resisting the effects.

What to expect from a treatment?

  • You’ll have an initial free consultation with a licensed specialist to design a plan
  • On the day of the treatment, the specialist will cleanse your face and mark the areas to be treated
  • The specialist will inject the muscles of your face

There will be a slight stinging sensation, but the needle is very small and there is no pain associated with the liquid, thus minimal discomfort.

Results are typically seen within 7–10 days (sometimes as soon as 3–5) and they last for 3-6 months. It’s recommended to get injections regularly to maintain results.

What are the side effects and aftercare?

Side effects are minimal, but some people may experience temporary swelling, redness, itching, pain, or bruising after treatment.

If you find yourself concerned about possible eyelid drooping after treatment, WebMD assures:

“These medications are generally safe when injected by a doctor or trained professional…Around 5% of people who get Botox® will have problems with eyelid droop. This number falls to less than 1% if a skilled doctor does the injection.”

Aftercare:

  • Avoid massaging the treated area
  • No strenuous exercise for 24 hours
  • No prolonged sun exposure for 72 hours
  • Use Tylenol and cold compresses if swelling occurs
