You’re engaged! Now don’t waste a moment. It’s time to start getting yourself ready for your big day! It’s a year off? Perfect timing. On your day of matrimony, the whole world is going to be looking at you, sweetheart. Get ready by getting comfortable with how you look and feel…from every angle.

Not only will all eyes be on you for this special day, but every moment will be documented. Go down in history looking and feeling your absolute best! How do you accomplish that, you ask? Well, we’ll help. Here’s our guide to cleaning up all your beauty loose ends before you tie the knot.

Wedding Beauty Prep

First and foremost, start your plan way ahead of time! You want to have ample time to reap the benefits of your wedding beauty prep. Which reminds us: DON’T DO ANY NEW OR DIFFERENT TREATMENTS IN THE LAST MONTH BEFORE THE BETROTHAL! Heaven forbid you didn’t have time to correct any missteps, like bad reactions to a treatment.

Make sure you are booking everything way ahead of time too. As in, as soon as you’ve made your decisions! (This actually holds true for everything: hair, makeup, nails, facials, treatments, wedding dress, etc.) Don’t risk not being able to fit in a session or get your favorite aesthetician.

12 Months Before the Big Day

Start Your Skincare Regimen

Get your wedding day skincare routine started a year before the nuptials (or at the absolute soonest that you can).

Make an appointment with your aesthetician!

Schedule a consultation with a top-notch aesthetician and give them all your information. They need to know exactly when the wedding, engagement photos, announcement photos, and whatever other big moments you have planned are. They also need to know what results you are looking to gain from this beauty prep.

Together, you’ll create a plan that caters to you, your skin, and your body. Oh! And don’t forget your back and hands! They will also be seen a ton during the betrothal traditions.

Facials

Start getting monthly facials. And pay attention to how your skin reacts. Do you notice the positive effects the next day or in a week or two? Plan your final facial before the matrimonial merger to line up with that timing.

At-home Routine

Create an at-home, skincare routine to support and enhance all of the work you’re doing with your aesthetician.

Stop Tweezing!!!

Are you about one year out? Stop tweezing and waxing your eyebrows! Let those babies grow out. Full and healthy eyebrows are back, and, hopefully, here to stay. Let them fill in, and then, 3 months before, get them shaped by a pro and make sure you like them. The week before the wedding, have them cleaned up with plenty of time for the redness to subside.

Give Injections A Try

If it’s your first time trying Botox® or Xeomin®, make sure you try it out at least 8–12 months before the wedding. This gives you time to see how your body reacts and make sure that you like how you look. Then, you can get a touch-up at six weeks and you’ll know exactly what you’re getting!

6–9 Months Before Espousal

Peels

Chemical peels get terrific results if you’re looking to “reduce or improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scars, uneven skin coloring and other skin imperfections.” However, recovery times can be longer, depending on your skin type. At 9 months prior to espousal, get your peel and develop a plan with your aesthetician for any subsequent treatments.

Get Rid Of That Hair!

Want to get rid of that bikini, leg, or underarm hair for good? Start laser hair removal at least 6–8 months before the wedding. Though you’ll notice results after every treatment, you’ll probably need 6–8 in total, and you’ll have to wait 4-6 weeks between sessions.

Zap Those Stubborn Spots

If you’ve got stubborn pockets of fat that don’t seem to be disappearing in spite of your healthy lifestyle, you might want to try CoolSculpting®, and this is the perfect time. Start with treatments now since it will take at least 3–4 months to see the full results.

4–6 Months Before You Put A Ring On It

Lasers!

Six months before the holy matrimony is the time to try laser treatments. Laser skin resurfacing is more precise than a chemical peel, but they treat the same things: fine wrinkles, age spots, uneven skin tone or texture, sun-damaged skin, and mild to moderate acne scars, according to the Mayo Clinic. After your first session, gauge your skin’s reaction and healing time and keep it in mind for future treatments.

Start A Retinoid

If you haven’t been already, start using a retinoid six months before affiancing. Vogue asserts, “A tried-and-true way to treat acne, rough or congested skin, and hyperpigmentation issues is by applying retinoids, a vitamin-A derivative that, when used topically, increases cell turnover and makes way for fresh, new cells to reach the surface of your skin.” There is a retinization period of about a month where your skin may worsen, and the positive results will take time. But man, are they worth it. Retinoids should be a regular part of your skincare routine after 30.

Luxurious Lashes

Do you want to give your lashes a boost? The 4-month mark is the ideal time to start using Latisse. The serum, applied nightly, will help you get longer, thicker, darker lashes that are all your own.

Growth progress from 0 to 12 weeks using Latisse from Lincoln spa on lashes.

3 Months Before You Pledge Yourselves

Before we get into the beauty treatments, let’s make this clear—NO MORE NEW TREATMENTS FROM HERE ON OUT! So sorry for yelling, but it is very important that you understand—this is the cut-off for trying out new treatments, and for dermaplaning, which we love!

Add In Acids

Three months before you take the plunge, add some acids into your at-home skin routine. Vogue advises, “Acids such as AHAs and BHAs are generally not as effective at rebuilding collagen in the skin as retinoids are, but they are capable of providing fantastic results when it comes to hyperpigmentation, dullness, acne, or textural issues.”

Waxing

If you prefer waxing over laser hair removal, now is the time to start waxing once a month until the wedding bells. This “will result in finer hair and reduced overall growth. Plan your final wax for two to three days in advance of the wedding to give enough time for any soreness to pass,” according to Harpers Bazaar.

Don’t Sweat It!

Are you nervous? Sweating just thinking about the big day? Now just imagine how much you’ll be sweating on the day! Have you ever considered getting Botox® for sweat? It could add to your comfort and confidence when walking down the aisle.

And speaking of Botox® and fillers, make sure that your last round is done 6–8 weeks before the celebration. However, if you’ve never done it before, this is not the time to start. You need to know that you’ll like how you look because the results will still be noticeable as you say, “I do.”

1 Month Before You Get Hitched!

One month to go! It’s time to get your last professional treatment. Don’t try anything new! And from here on out, focus on at-home skin care. Ask your aesthetician for help designing this at-home plan. The key is—lots of hydration!

1–2 Weeks Before You Plight Your Troth

Brows And Lashes

At 1–2 weeks before you take a spouse, get your brows waxed and both your brows and lashes tinted. Tinting is a great way to make your brows and lashes look fuller and longer. Especially if you don’t want to wear fake lashes the day of and risk them falling, or melting, off in the middle of the party!

Final Facial

It’s almost go-time! One week before you tie that knot, get your final facial. Focus on oxygen and hydrating therapies and no extractions or peels!

Calm Down!

Everything is ready to go, now it’s up to you to find time to relax and let it all happen. One week before, stop exfoliation, retinoids, and acids, and focus on calming, soothing, and hydrating treatments. Lots of water and stay away from the booze! There’ll be plenty of time for that on your honeymoon.

The Day Before Holy Matrimony

No Time For New!

Don’t do anything new today! No last-minute treatments. No extractions.

Relax And Pamper

Get a massage, a relaxing facial, or a manicure and pedicure. The pampering will make a huge difference in how you feel on the day.

Night Before

Before you go to bed, think hydration and supporting the skin barrier. Hyaluronic acid, overnight repair, and lots of water and rest.

Day of the “I Do’s”

Final Prep

It’s finally here! You’re getting married! Remember to use water-based skin care products that will provide a good base for your makeup. And slap on an undereye mask early on to minimize puffiness.

Congratulations!

You made it! You look beautiful. You feel incredible. And, trust us, you are glowing! Now just take in all the love and excitement, it’s a day you will remember for the rest of your life. Get out on that dance floor, and celebrate the hard work that got you here. It isn’t easy finding the right partner, and it isn’t easy looking this stunning. Cheers!
